Lamego - Monumental City

 

It was in Lamego that the legendary "Cortes de Lamego" took place, where King Afonso Henriques was acclaimed the first King of Portugal and the "Rules of Succession to the Throne" were established.
 
Lamego is also known for its gastronomy, from which stand out its hams and the "roasted lamb with tradicional rice" and for its wine production, namely Port wine and sparkling wines, of which it is part of the Demarcated Region.
 
 

 

Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Sanctuary

 

It is the main tourist attraction in Lamego, situated at the top of the "São Estevão" hill, with 686 steps.
 
The staircase is all decorated and there are beautiful monuments, chapels, fountains, statues and obelisks.

It's considered "one of the best examples of the cisterns of Portuguese castles.

Archaeological Nucleus

 

It is the most important archaeological complex discovered in Lamego, illustrating the dynamic transformation of the city over more than two thousand years of its history.

Lamego Museum

 

Located in the historic center of the city, it was founded in 1917 in a building, which was once an episcopal palace.

São Pedro de Balsemão Chapel

 

Located in a small plain along the banks of the "Balsemão" River. 
 
One of the striking elements is the mid-14th century sarcophagus belonging to D. Afonso Pires, Bishop of Porto.

Located in a mountain zone, the "Serra das Meadas", occupying an area of 50 hectares.
